Carnival goers scammed by fake tix

Sonoma County Fair officials said fraudulent Carnival WOW Coupons for admission to the fair are being sold on line, door-to-door, in some neighborhoods and in parking lots.

The printed coupons were last sold two or three years ago when admission to the fair was $20, fair manager Tawny Tesconi said.

The 2014 Carnival WOW Coupons are $25 at the fair’s box office, but the fair also offers promotions including $22 wristbands for both fair admission and unlimited carnival rides, free admission for seniors on Thursdays and on Fridays for kids 7-12.

General admission is $11 for those 13 and older. Carnival rides are extra.

Tesconi said someone informed the fair there was a vehicle containing “boxes and boxes” of $20 WOW Coupons in one neighborhood, and some of them were being sold on Craigslist and Facebook.

Fair officials are working out an agreement with those who do show up at the fair with the fraudulent Carnival WOW coupons.

“The carnival and the fair don’t have to honor them, but we try to work a deal, like a two-for-one wristband,” Tesconi said.

The Sonoma County Fair runs through Aug. 10 at the county fairgrounds in Santa Rosa.
