Bulls settle for split of sorts in Bakersfield
The San Francisco Bulls had to settle for three points in two weekend games at Bakersfield after Condors goalie Scott Greenham stoned the visitors in a shootout Saturday night to deliver a 2-1 home win.
After completing regulation and the five-minute overtime tied at one goal each, a combined eight players from both teams failed to convert to begin the shootout period.
The ninth player to try his hand in the shootout — Condors rookie forward Brett Perlini — slipped the decider past Bulls goalie Taylor Nelson.
Justin Bowers would slap home his fourth goal of the season, a second-period power play tally from the point assisted by Sacha Guimond. Bowers holds sole possession of the ECHL scoring lead with 10 points in the Bulls’ first five games.
Taylor Nelson stopped 29 of 30 Condors shots, allowing a first period goal by Condors forward Alex Hudson. Nelson bumped his save percentage for the season to .889 after Saturday’s action.
The Bulls return to the Bay Area before jetting off to Anchorage later this week for a three-game set against the Aces starting Friday at 8:15 p.m. San Francisco time.
