First reports of a fire at the former KNTV-TV television studion on Park Avenue came in to the San Jose fire department around 3 p.m.

San Jose fire Capt. Reggie Williams told the Merc two apparently homeless people fleed the building as firefighters arrived on the scene:

“This is a big fire for us. … We can’t tell you whether or not there are still people in there.”

Crews from Santa Clara and Sunnyvale were summoned to help fight the fire, which crews expect to battle into the evening.
