Young couple killed in double homicide
A young Oakland couple was identified as the two people shot and killed in East Oakland just after noon Friday, police said.
Richard Livingston, 20, and Alexis Randolph, 19, were shot in the 500 block of 105th Avenue just after noon on Friday, according to police. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police searched the area for suspects just after the shooting, locking down nearby Stonehurst Elementary School and James Madison Middle School. No suspects were located and police have not released a description of the suspects. Police have not disclosed a motive for the shooting. The two victims had recently started dating, according to Facebook posts.
The killing of the young couple was one incident in a particularly violent day in Oakland. A total of eight people were shot, including one who died and two others injured that night in a shooting at 32nd and Adeline streets.
Police Chief Sean Whent released a statement Saturday addressing the violence, calling it “unacceptable” and saying that Oakland police would continue to use data and intelligence to identify patterns and curb violence:
“We have seen two successive years of violent crime reduction and we are committed to working in partnership with the community to ensure that trend continues.”
Oakland police have not announced arrests in any of the recent shootings.
