Police said today that a man who died in a car fire Thursday in Richmond committed suicide.
Police said after reviewing video footage and conducting an investigation, investigators concluded Richmond resident Mario Lee, 60, set the car on fire from the inside.
Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said firefighters responded at about 12:30 p.m. to the 200 block of West Nevin Avenue to a report of a car fire.
Firefighters saw Lee’s body inside the car’s backseat as they were extinguishing the fire, which had engulfed the car, police said. Lee was dead by the time firefighters extinguished the fire, Abetkov said.
