Three arrested in baseball bat attack

Three people have been arrested after a man was beaten with a baseball bat last weekend in what South San Francisco police called a gang-related attack.

The victim, a 24-year-old South San Francisco resident, was walking in the 700 block of Linden Avenue around 3 p.m. Saturday when he was attacked by a group of five suspects, police said.

The suspects attacked the victim with a baseball bat and punched and kicked him in the head and chest, causing multiple injuries, police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are not considered life-threatening.

Investigators were able to identify all five suspects, and have arrested 19-year-old Jose Luis Hernandez, of South San Francisco, and two boys ages 16 and 17, also South San Francisco residents.

All three were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit a felony and being a participant in a criminal street gang.

Police are seeking the other two suspects, whose identities are not yet being released. Anyone who witnessed the attack or who has information about it is asked to call police at (650) 877-8900 or at (650) 952-2244. Tips can also be emailed to tips@ssf.net.
