Boaters rescued after craft capsizes

U.S. Coast Guard personnel rescued two men Saturday morning from a capsized boat near Bay Point, an unincorporated community in Contra Costa County, Coast Guard officials said.

Personnel at the command center for Coast Guard Sector San Francisco received a report of the capsized boat and two men in the water at 4:49 a.m., according to Coast Guard officials.

Crewmembers found one man wearing a life jacket and the other clinging to a floating duck decoy, Coast Guard officials said.

The two men were taken to McAvoy Yacht Harbor where they received medical treatment, according to Coast Guard officials.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Jessica Achterberg said, “We advise everyone to wear a life jacket at all times in any weather condition, because you never know what might happen.” Crews from Coast Guard Station Rio Vista, the Pittsburg Fire Department and the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office also responded, Coast Guard officials said.
