BART rider assists in bike theft arrests
A BART rider assisted in capturing alleged bike thieves at the MacArthur BART station Monday morning after reporting suspicious activity, according to BART officials.
BART officials said at 11 a.m., a customer reported to station agents that it appeared some men were using tools to cut the locks on bikes parked there.
According to BART officials the suspects saw that they had been spotted and attempted to toss their tools in a nearby garbage can.
BART police were contacted and the suspects were taken into custody with the tools being recovered, BART officials said.
One of the suspects was a juvenile, and he was released to his parent’s custody, while the other suspect was taken and booked into Glenn Dyer Jail on suspicion of burglary and possession of burglary tools.
