Bernie Sanders concert rallies San Francisco

In what could end up being among Bernie Sanders’ final stops in his presidential campaign, the Vermont senator rallied thousands of supporters gathered at San Francisco’s Crissy Field Monday.

Rather than a typical rally, a concert was held with performances from Oakland musician Fantastic Negrito and Dave Matthews.

Vice President of National Nurses United Zenei Cortez told SFBay:

“This event is more festive. … Music is always festive because this is the night of the primary and we just want to make sure that it’s an early celebration of winning California.”

During the concert Monday, the Associated Press declared that Clinton had already clinched the Democratic Party’s nomination, making her the first woman in history to become the nominee of a major political party. Clinton went on to win the California primary vote 55.8 percent to 43.2 percent for Sanders Tuesday night.

Cortez said:

“Well honestly we are not thinking that he is going to lose. The campaign has changed the landscape of politics in California and throughout the nation.”

Former Ohio State Sen. Nina Turner were among the guests who spoke at the concert, encouraging Sanders supporters to “fight on” and helped reassure them that they would make it to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

After Turner’s speech, Sanders finally made it to the podium to greet his supporters, and not once mentioned Clinton’s delegate threshold.
