Man sought who shot at injured Oakland cop
A suspect who allegedly shot at an Oakland police sergeant on Saturday night remains at large, police said Monday.
The sergeant was responding to a call at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday when her patrol car was involved in a crash in the 1900 block of 73rd Avenue, police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson said.
Shortly after the crash, a male suspect approached the patrol vehicle and fired a round, striking the patrol car, Watson said.
The sergeant wasn’t struck by the gunshot but was taken to a hospital to be treated for the injuries she suffered in the crash. She has since been released, according to Watson.
Watson said police arrested someone for an unrelated crime during their investigation of the shooting, but she didn’t elaborate.
Oakland police haven’t provided a description of the suspect and said:
“The department’s efforts continue to identify and locate the person responsible for this attack on our officer.”
Oakland police said anyone with information about the shooting should call their homicide unit at (510) 238-3821, their tip line at (510) 238-7950 or the Oakland Crime Stoppers tip line at (510) 777-8572.
