Napa police fatally shoot man armed with knife

Two police officers fatally shot a man Tuesday¬†evening in Napa, after the officers responded to a call regarding a man armed with a knife who was allegedly acting “crazy,” police said.

At about 6:21 p.m., officers responded to numerous calls regarding a man who had a knife walking in front of the Home Depot store, located at 225 Soscol Ave., according to police.

Callers described the man as acting “high” or “crazy,” police said.

When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect crossed Kansas Avenue, heading north.

After making contact with the suspect, the incident somehow escalated and the two officers fired their service weapons at the man, killing him, according to police.

The Napa County Sheriff Office is investigating the incident.

Investigators learned that before the officers arrived, the man had allegedly been attacking people and motorists on foot with the knife.

Witnesses also said he was being confrontational with people in the area, police said.

The two police officers involved in the incident will be placed on administrative leave as sheriff’s office conducts its investigation. The names of the officers will be released later this week.

The identity of the man fatally shot has not been released.
