Suspect in armed standoff over parking identified

Police Tuesday identified a woman who was involved in a standoff with officers in San Jose, which began Sunday evening and lasted into Monday morning, as 56-year-old Michelle Mesa-Diaz.

At 5:52 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a report of two people fighting in the 3300 block of Holly Drive, Officer Gina Tepoorten said.

Neighbors told police that a woman was upset about a parking situation and allegedly waved a gun at them, according to Tepoorten.

A SWAT team responded and several nearby homes were evacuated.

Tepoorten said Mesa-Diaz surrendered Monday morning. She was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a weapon and being a felon in possession of a gun and was taken to the county jail.
