A 63-year-old woman who died in a hit-and-run early Friday morning in San Francisco’s Chinatown neighborhood has been identified as Lai Lei Wong, according to the city’s medical examiner’s office.

Officers found Wong, a San Francisco resident, in the roadway near Broadway and Stockton Street around 5 a.m., police said.

She was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and died a short time later, according to police.

At the scene, officers determined that Wong had been struck by a vehicle but they were initially unable to locate the car. Officers, however, were eventually able to find the vehicle and arrested the driver, a 35-year-old man, according to police.
