The Giants managed the impact of yet another blow to their starting nine Thursday. Brandon Belt was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a bone bruise resulting from his hyperextended right knee sustained Wednesday in Seattle.
The team made a string of other transactions. Chris Stratton has been recalled from Triple-A Sacramento, Evan Longoria (left hand) was re-activated from the DL and Kelby Tomlinson was optioned back to Triple-A.
Ty Blach was demoted to Triple-A after Wednesday’s Seattle game, too, but the team reversed the decision when they got more information on Belt’s injury. Belt is expected to be out for at least five days.
“We’ll see where we’re at if something happens where we use him in the ‘pen — we can get creative — but right now he’s in the rotation with him going [Wednesday].”
After a solid outing Wednesday and the recall of Stratton, this seems solidified for the foreseeable future. Stratton is expected to join Blach in the bullpen in a long-relief role.
