Resident injured in Brisbane house fire

One person suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to a hospital after a fire broke out Wednesday afternoon in a Brisbane home, North County Fire Authority officials said.

Firefighters responded at 3:30 p.m. to the fire in a single-family, split-level home in the 200 block of Mendocino Street where upon arrival they saw smoke rising from the chimney.

Firefighters broke down the front door and found a fire burning in the kitchen and dining room.

Fire officials said crews extinguished the blaze and kept it from spreading beyond the two rooms, though at least one other part of the home sustained smoke damage.

The fire has displaced the injured person and three small pets, which were placed at an animal shelter.

No firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
