SF DA announces tech partnership to expedite marijuana conviction dismissals

San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon and a tech-based civil rights advocacy group will be hosting a news conference Monday to announce what is being billed as a “unprecedented development” for marijuana-related convictions.

Gascon will join Code for America Executive Director Jennifer Pahlka at a 10:30 a.m. news conference that is expected to announce the use of technology to help expedite the dismissal and seal of marijuana-related convictions following California’s passage in 2016 of Proposition 64 to legalize the possession and recreational use of marijuana for adults over 21. Gascon announced last year that he would retroactively apply the proposition to misdemeanor and felony marijuana convictions dating back to 1975.

The news conference will take place at the Hall of Justice in San Francisco.
