About 30,000 Comcast customers in Palo Alto are reporting intermittent service outages after a construction crew hit utility wires on Monday afternoon.
The outage is affecting both Comcast services and power service in the city. Comcast spokeswoman Joan Hammel said a third-party crew hit the wires while digging at East Charleston and Middlefield roads.
“Our crews are working fast and furiously, but we don’t have an estimated time of restoration at this time,” Hammel said.
According to the city’s power outage map, 3,365 residents were without power in the Midtown neighborhood at one point, but about 75 percent of the affected customers had restored service as of 2 p.m.
The city manages its own utilities, and said remaining customers will have access to services by 3 p.m.

Clarification – the power outage in Palo Alto today was unrelated to any Comcast work or issues. The power outage was caused by damaged equipment in an underground electrical vault at a different location than Comcast work was occurring. Power service for almost all Palo Alto Utilities customers has been restored. A few customers will remain without power until around 7pm tonight while crews make necessary repairs.
