Fairfield police lift evacuations after grenade removal

A grenade that appeared to be a live device was removed from the rear of a business on 600 block of Beck Avenue near Cadenasso Drive in west Fairfield Thursday, according to Fairfield police.

Fairfield police evacuated the area when the hand grenade was discovered. As of 10:35 a.m., police said a Travis Explosive Ordinance Disposal team responded and removed the device, rendering the area safe again.

Police said the incident is still under investigation.
