Kerr shuns Knicks to sign with Warriors

OAKLAND — A current broadcast analyst and former NBA star with zero coaching experience is the head coach of the Golden State Warriors.

No, we’re not talking about the last guy.

In a move that shocked many, TNT’s Steve Kerr accepted a five-year $25 million deal to coach the Warriors according to Yahoo! Sports.

Kerr, 48, a five-time NBA champion, chose to take a job in California where he lives, turning down the New York Knicks and a chance to reunite with Phil Jackson — who coached Kerr to three championships with the Bulls.

The Warriors confirmed a deal was reached after the news was broken by TNT’s David Aldridge:

Kerr, who served as General Manager of the Phoenix Suns until 2010, replaces Mark Jackson as the coach of the Warriors after Jackson was fired May 6. Kerr becomes the second straight coach of the Warriors without coaching experience.

A press conference will be scheduled when the deal is finalized, according to a statement released by the Warriors.
