Authorities identify Garden Grove man as fatal shooting victim

A man who was fatally shot in Oakland’s Uptown district late Tuesday night was identified by police on Thursday as 32-year-old Janath Liyanage of Garden Grove.

Liyanage was shot in the 500 block of 20th Street, between Rashida Muhammad Street and San Pablo Avenue, at about 11:13 p.m. on Tuesday and was pronounced dead at a local hospital about two hours later, police said. Authorities haven’t disclosed any information about suspects or a motive in the fatal shooting.
